Anole Lizards

Getting Dirty in the Garden
2
1

Thank you for indulging me as I share this 3 minute video of an epic duel between two anole lizards on the corner post of my friends’ squash garden in Molokai. Talk about ‘getting dirty in the garden!'

Anole lizards are very territorial when it comes to breeding dominance and access to water and plant resources.

With no referee in site, their battle choreography consisted of color changing (like chameleons), inflating throat dewlaps to look larger, casting glares and bobbing heads of mal-intent directly at each other, and finally - laying in with teeth, jaws, and mandible-led ‘full nelsons’.
